Engineered Wood

Engineered wood features a top layer of real hardwood bonded over multiple layers of plywood or fiberboard.

Why Choose Engineered Wood?

Engineered wood offers a clever blend of beauty and practicality. It features a real hardwood veneer on top, bonded over layers of plywood or high-density fiberboard. This multi-layer construction makes engineered wood more resistant to humidity and temperature changes than solid wood, allowing it to be used in areas where solid hardwood might warp or cup—such as basements or over radiant heating.

Engineered wood gives you the genuine look and feel of real wood at a more accessible price point and with better structural stability. It’s available in a wide variety of wood species, finishes, and plank sizes. Some versions are even designed for easy floating installation. While it can be sanded and refinished in some cases, the number of times depends on the thickness of the top layer. Still, it’s a great option for homeowners who want authentic wood without some of the drawbacks of solid planks.

Pros:

  • Real wood appearance

  • More stable than solid wood in humid environments

  • Often more affordable than solid hardwood

  • Easier installation options (click-lock or glue-down)

Cons:

  • Limited refinishing potential (depends on top layer thickness)

  • Still vulnerable to water damage

  • Can be pricier than vinyl or laminate

Flooring Buying Guide

How do I get a price?

Use our contact form to get in touch; let us know the size of the area and what flooring you want and we’ll give you a price!

What flooring can you install?

If it goes on the floor, we can install it! Carpet, laminate, luxury vinyl and engineered wood are our bread and butter.

What prep is needed for my new floor?

The room needs to be empty in order for us to install the floor. Other than that, we will sort out all the prep work – you’ll be kept in the loop every step of the way, so if there is screeding/boarding needing prior to the floor going down, you’ll know.

Do you offer payment plans?

We do not offer payment plans for our floors. We take a deposit; the rest of the figure is due once the floor has been installed.

What floor is right for me?

It entirely depends on the area and what you use it for. If it is a family room where people come to relax, a thick pile carpet is what we recommend. If it is an office or dining room, our range of engineered woods would bring those rooms to life.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in Cambridgeshire but are willing to travel for jobs.
